Up for auction is a donation certificate for the Auxiliary Mount Vernon Fund signed by Edward Everett and F. H. Peabody. It is dated 1859 and issued to Mr. George W. Means for the donation of $1.00 to the fund. There are two nice vignettes of Mount Vernon at the top. Everett is most famous for his speech at Gettysburg but was instrumental in the purchase of Mount Vernon. He joined the Ladies of Mount Vernon after learning of the their attempt to purchase Washington's home from his heirs. He donated the earnings from his articles and speeches to the fund.

The certificate measures approximately 5-1/2" x 9" and remains in good condition. It had been folded and shows wear along the fold lines. There are also some small pin holes and stains. It appears to be printed on a thin rice paper or vellum.

Shipping via USPS Priority Mail and is included at no additional charge for buyers in the US.
